NCD Essentials

A Navigating Challenging Dialogue® Communication Workshop
in Partnership with Impact Foundry

Are There Conversations You Dread or Avoid? Does it Seem Like Conflicts are Never Resolved?

Nonprofit leadership is filled with difficult conversations and interpersonal conflicts that leaders are unprepared to resolve. These simmering tensions can make the already hard work even harder.
It’s human nature to dig in and try to find a way through conversations that feel hard, risky, or just exhausting. It’s often the urge to be heard and understood that leads to conflict and damaged relationships.

This Workshop Transforms Tough Conversations

You’ll learn Navigating Challenging Dialogue® (NCD), the NCD Process, and the NCD Principles. These are proven tools for effective, fact-based dialogue, even when communication feels risky. Learn to create connections and achieve results through clear, empathetic communication.
You’ll leave class able to apply your new skills immediately.

Whether you’re an established leader, someone aspiring to become a leader or a team player who wants to improve your communication skills, this workshop will transform how you engage with others and handle conflicts.

The NCD Process is a framework for fact-based dialogue, even when communication feels risky:

Conversations that bring up conflict
Acting in a management or leadership role
Coaching your staff or team

Giving and receiving feedback
Providing customer service
At home, work, or wherever you have conversations that can feel risky

"The NCD Essentials workshop totally met my expectations. I loved the use of case study and hearing the individual reflections along the way. This workshop was more robust than most others because of this engagement.  Beth provides a clear framework with a different energy than any other workshop I’ve attended. It was amazingly collaborative and open for such a potentially nerve-wracking topic!"

By Design, This Is Not a Typical Workshop Where You Sit Back and Listen to the Instructor

This workshop is experiential. You will write-up 2 scenarios of your own to learn and practice the NCD Process during the workshop. Each scenario will describe a conversation you'll be having with one specific person. This should be a conversation that you anticipate may be challenging or which you've been dreading.

Navigating Challenging Dialogue is Your Communication Toolkit

By following the NCD Process, you can have effective conversations which are less stressful and more productive.
Practicing the NCD Principles will develop the skills that lead to building trust: self-awareness, emotional self-regulation, empathy, and curiosity.
These skills are foundational to being effective in communication, leadership, and incorporating coaching skills into the workplace.

Using Navigating Challenging Dialogue has helped hundreds of individuals and organizations to clearly communicate in ways that create connections, build bridges, and get results.

"It blew my mind how complicated we make things and how simple it really can be when we just strip everything away and get down to the facts. EVERYONE needs this. Every manager, leader, parent, teacher, coach, counselor, etc... basically, anyone who communicates with others needs to take [NCD Essentials]."

Navigating Challenging Dialogue is Proven and Valuable

Early in her career, Beth got fed up with all the time she wasted clearing up her miscommunications. Through research and practice, she created Navigating Challenging Dialogue (NCD). Using NCD and following the 4-step NCD Process not only made her a better communicator, it improved all of her relationships, and she became a more effective leader.

  • Today, Fortune 500s, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and schools use the tools and strategies of NCD to become communicators who empower others through meaningful, drama-free conversations.
  • NCD is a proven tool for improving culture, clarity, and retention in organizations.
  • More importantly, Beth's client work has proven that practicing NCD makes it easier to build trust, which is critical for healthy relationships and successful organizations.

As you learn the principles, key concepts, and skills of NCD, you’ll be more open to observe the interactions of others around you. You’ll notice where drama is being created through lack of clarity. You’ll start to see points in conversations where pausing to ask a few curious questions may avoid unhealthy conflict.

Observing the world around you is one of the ways the practice of NCD improves your ability to have even the toughest conversations in much healthier ways. As you begin to experience more ease, you will notice places all around you where drama and conflict may be prevented.

By using NCD, you’ll begin experiencing less drama, chaos, stress, and unhealthy conflict in your own communication. And you’ll find the best way to introduce these concepts to others is to model the behavior you desire.
